WHAT IS A SOLSTICE?

A solstice is an astronomical moment honouring the change in the sun's cycle around the planet. Celebrated twice a year, a solstice signifies the cosmic harmony of the Sun reaching its absolute highest or lowest point relative to our celestial equator. As our Earth is on a tilted axis, the June solstice brings those in the Southern Hemisphere their shortest day and the start of Winter, and in the Northern Hemisphere, their longest day and the start of their Summer. 

Each Solstice marks the beginning of a new season; a highly potent and magical time for renewal where Mother Nature responds to the shift in energy from the decreased or increased sunlight. A winter solstice, when nature is at its quietest, asks for us to pause, disconnect, and reconnect with our internal world and awaken your imagination and dream state. Whereas the summer solstice reinvigorates us with its longer days, supporting the flow of our life force and invites you to focus on what lights you up.

During a solstice, emotional sensitivity may be heightened for this is a transformational time to reflect on how you want to show up in the world. For thousands of years, these shifts in energy have been celebrated around the world for their significance through offerings, festivals and rituals. A solstice is not only a turning point in the year, but also in our life. The intentions we set now will be carried out over the next 6 months.
